Areas of Specialization

Leadership

The data are clear: the number of women educational leaders is remarkably low given the high number of women teachers. Voices of women may be absent or marginalized in your leadership structure. Having a more diverse leadership team creates opportunities for richer, more productive problem-solving and decision-making. How can your school or district eliminate this lack of representation and bring the voices of all stakeholders into the leadership structure?

Curriculum

Curriculum in schools must represent the diverse voices of both educators and learners. The selection of curriculum materials should be an inclusive process, in which contributions made by women and people of color are thoughtfully and deliberately included, for the quality of their contributions, rather than because they fulfill a quota. How can your school include more diverse voices in its development and adoption of curriculum materials?

Instruction & Assessment

Instruction and assessment practices are two components of a cyclical process which measures student learning and then uses those assessments to inform future instruction. How can your school ensure that all students have access to instruction and assessments that are appropriate, authentic, and rigorous?

School Policies

Gender bias is inherent in several school policies, such as dress code and disciplinary procedures. How can your school work to eliminate these policy disparities so that all students feel both supported and accountable in your school community while they are growing and achieving?
